Things you need to know about Mexico City? Based on my first experience.
- Very Clean. Mexico City is one of the cleanest cities that I’ve ever been. I know what your thinking I was shocked as well. I was thinking third world country, poverty, etc. but to my dismay not at all …every bathroom came with an attendant that keep it super spotless. I had no problem tipping for this service. Could we not do this here in the United States? The streets are also constantly being swept and washed no garbage on streets.
- Lots of culture. Saw one of the best theater productions it was a 5 star show. Please don’t miss this amazing theatrical experience. I’m still in awe of it.
- The Food. We ate everything, everywhere and had no problems with(Montezuma Revenge)AKA. food sickness. But as a side note we did choose to skip the street vendors and tried to chose bottled water.
- Weather/Dress So your not in Cancun and even though it’s warm in the day and cool at night, no one ever wears shorts or tanks. Here I am at the Pyramids its a little cool but not enough for a jacket and its July!! No I didn’t climb to the top I’m such a chicken when it comes to heights!!
- Hotels Mexico City has some amazing hotels at some great bargains. Check on 4 and 5 star hotels you will be super impressed. If you are traveling from US or Euro your going to love the exchange rate! We stayed at the Krystal Grand Reforma Uno, it was amazing and super modern with large rooms, spa, with great amenities and close to historic district. If you stay there make sure you book a rate that will include the hotel breakfast its well worth it. We were on the 18th floor…remember my fear of heights…Yikes!!!!If I were to go again I would also consider the Grand Hotel de Mexico due to its location inside the historic distric and the fact that I’m a big sucker for antiques and grand old things! It looks very romantic. See Below.
- Safety I know that is always everyone’s big concern when going abroad especially Mexico but I can honestly say we encountered no problems with safety and we walked everywhere in the historic district. Although we did have someone tell us to not go beyond a certain zone, so check with the hotel concierge just as a percuation.
